Description
Southern Fried Apples: A cozy, buttery, spiced treat that works beautifully as a side or dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3 tbsp butter
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp lemon juice (optional, for balance)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add apple slices and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften.
- Sprinkle in brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir to coat apples evenly.
- Continue cooking 5–7 minutes until apples are tender and caramelized.
- Add lemon juice if desired, stir, and serve warm.
Notes
- Best served warm as a side with pork or as a comforting dessert with vanilla ice cream.
- Use firm apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) for texture that holds up in skillet.
- For a lighter version, reduce butter to 2 tablespoons and skip extra salt.
