Description

Sloppy Joe Potato Skillet: a one-skillet twist on a classic where crispy potatoes meet saucy, savory beef for a family-friendly dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • lbs potatoes, diced (skin on or peeled)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste (optional for richer flavor)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (use halal version)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced potatoes and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and tender. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, heat another tablespoon of olive oil. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Add onion, garlic, and bell pepper; cook for 4–5 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  5. Return the cooked potatoes to the skillet and stir gently to coat with the sauce.
  6. Sprinkle cheese evenly over the top. Cover and cook on low heat until cheese is melted, about 2–3 minutes.
  7. Garnish with green onions or parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Halal option: use halal-certified beef and halal Worcestershire sauce.
  • To vary the meat, substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • To ensure gluten-free, verify that the Worcestershire sauce is gluten-free.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3–4 days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave.
