Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a rough dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a baking stone or sheet inside to heat.
- Punch down the dough and shape into a long loaf. Place on parchment paper and let rise 30 minutes.
- Slash the top with a sharp knife. Spray the loaf lightly with water.
- Carefully transfer onto the hot stone or sheet. Bake for 25–30 minutes until deep golden brown and crusty.
- Cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.
