Description

Apple Fritter Bread: a warm, cozy Amish-inspired loaf bursting with apple-cinnamon flavor, swirled with cinnamon sugar and finished with a sweet glaze.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  3. Whisk together flour and baking powder, then add to wet ingredients alternating with milk until smooth.
  4. In a small bowl, toss diced apples with cinnamon and brown sugar.
  5. Pour half the batter into the loaf pan, layer with half the apple mixture, then repeat with remaining batter and apples. Swirl gently with a knife.
  6. Bake for 55–60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Whisk glaze ingredients and drizzle over cooled bread before slicing.

Notes

  • For best results, use room-temperature ingredients.
  • If apples are tart, you can add a touch more sugar.
  • Glaze thickness can be adjusted with more milk.
